Email links on Mac

Gmail. Safari.
Your whole inbox.

You click an email address and Apple Mail opens. Or a webmail helper opens a standalone compose window without the inbox behind it. If you spend your day in Gmail in Safari, both can feel like a detour.

Why selecting Safari alone may not solve it

macOS routes mailto links to a default email app. Apple notes that choosing a web browser in Mail's default-reader menu may not automatically open webmail. Read Apple's guidance.

What InboxHop changes

InboxHop registers as a Mac email-link handler. Its included Safari extension opens a normal new draft in Gmail, keeping the full interface available. The recipient, subject and body come from the original link. It can reuse a ready Gmail tab for the chosen account instead of leaving another tab open.

Setup in three steps

  1. Enable the included InboxHop extension in Safari and allow mail.google.com.
  2. Set InboxHop as your default email app.
  3. Sign in to Gmail, reload existing Gmail tabs and open the test draft.

A routing tab may appear briefly. Existing drafts are preserved. You always review and send the message yourself.

Is this a new mail client?

No. Your mail stays in Gmail. InboxHop is a small shortcut between email links and the browser you already use. It requires Safari and a signed-in Gmail account. Other browsers and attachment links are not supported in this version.

InboxHop is being prepared for the Mac App Store. See the app or read setup help.
