Set up InboxHop
- Open InboxHop on your Mac.
- Choose Open Safari settings. Enable InboxHop under Extensions.
- Choose Edit Websites and allow mail.google.com.
- Return to InboxHop and choose Set as default. Confirm the macOS prompt if shown.
- Open Gmail in Safari. InboxHop shows the Gmail addresses it detects; choose the one you want and open the test draft.
- Check the address, subject and body. The test uses example.com; do not send it.
Already have Gmail open?
Reload existing Gmail tabs after enabling the extension. InboxHop looks for the same account in an available full Gmail tab, brings it forward and creates a new draft. A temporary routing tab may appear briefly before closing. If no ready tab is available, the new tab is used.
Wrong or unknown Gmail account?
Open the account in a Safari Gmail tab, then return to InboxHop to refresh the account list. InboxHop shows the email address when Safari can identify it. If an account is shown as unknown, open that account in Gmail and reload its tab. Gmail account order can change when you sign accounts out and back in; check your selected address before using the test draft.
Nothing happens or a warning appears
Check that you are signed in to Gmail in Safari and that InboxHop is enabled with permission for mail.google.com. Reload Gmail, then open the original email link again. Check the information shown in any InboxHop warning before manually finishing the draft. Do not share private mail content with support.
Why does Safari say the extension can read and change webpages?
That is the browser permission required to find the compose fields and fill a draft. InboxHop requests access only to mail.google.com. It does not collect inbox messages or send mail.
What is supported?
Safari on macOS 13 or later; standard mailto links containing recipients, CC, BCC, subject and plain text. Chrome, Edge and Firefox are not supported. Attachments cannot be added by email links. Gmail changes can require an app update. Check every draft before sending.
Undo the setup
In Apple Mail, choose Settings → General → Default email reader and select your previous mail app. Then disable InboxHop in Safari → Settings → Extensions. You can remove InboxHop from Applications.
